Welcome to the Midford!
We are a resource base which operates alongside the mainstream part of St Nicholas school. The base is for Key Stage 2 children who have been diagnosed with Attachment difficulties. Many of our children also have specific learning needs. We have a high staff to child ratio so that we can provide the individual support that the children need.
Our main aim is to support the children with their emotional needs, accessing the curriculum where appropriate. Many of our children do access mainstream lessons.
The children are involved in the daily life of St Nicholas School, joining with their mainstream peers for playtimes and lunchtimes as appropriate. We also attend whole school assemblies, activities and we are involved with school productions.
We have fantastic facilities, including a large outdoor space, a 'cool down room', a Midford garden area and a sensory space. We also have access to all of the school facilities including the hall, woodland area, library and Food Technology room. Three children have the opportunity to swim each term in a private pool with a specialist swimming teacher.
Midford staff include:
Joanna Viranyi - Class teacher
Amie Bennett
Charlene Lamb
We work closely with the School SENCo Helen Crossen.
Please can your child bring their book bag every day.
If you would like your child to have break-time tuck with Key stage 2, please send in money for a tuck card.
Weekly activities:
MONDAY - please bring in PE kits (these will remain in school until Friday) Our PE day is Thursday, but we may decide to do some extra sessions during the week!
TUESDAY - swimming lesson (children swim for 3 terms each)
FRIDAY - please bring in Times times folders and spelling folders as we will be checking the children's progress.
Each child has the opportunity to read individually with an adult at least twice each week. If you would like to have a reading book to share with your child at home, please just let a member of the Midford team know.
Children have access to 'Times Tables rockstars' which gives them the chance to practice their timestables at home. They also have access to 'Spelling shed'. Please could you use these resources at home regularly - just 5 minutes a day will have a huge impact. Thank you!
Here are some photographs to show you some of what we get up to!
